Rose Marie Bogley, Sandy Lerner and Linda Porter were recently recognized with conservation awards from the Land Trust of Virginia. Each of the prominent landowners received framed aerial photographs of their property at the organization’s annual ‘Garden Party to Save Virginia’s Countryside.’ The Land Trust of Virginia (LTV) is a nationally accredited non-profit land trust that protects open space and natural and historic resources in Virginia. Rose Marie Bogley of Bollingbrook in Fauquier was named Landowner of the Year in recognition of her commitment to preserve one of Virginia’s most spectacular properties, Bollingbrook, her beautiful 365-acre farm near Upperville. She placed her farm in easement with LTV in December of 2009. The easement protects the estate’s extraordinary scenic agricultural open space, historic resources and other conservation values and represents another key piece in the effort to protect Upperville, one of Virginia’s most historic villages.
Sandy Lerner was recognized as LTV Steward of the Year for her careful, environmentally sensitive stewardship of Ayrshire Farm, her 900-acre property in southwestern Loudoun County. Since placing her property in easement in 2004, Sandy has been an exemplary steward of the land.
Ayrshire, the largest property under easement with LTV, is managed as a sustainable organic farming operation. Lerner raises organic livestock, poultry and produce that is offered for sale through her Home Farm Store in Middleburg, the farm’s online
