Middleburg Academy’s Girls’ Volleyball team won the Virginia Independent School Athletic Association Division 2 state championship at Saturday’s finals.  The 3-0 victory over Peninsula Catholic (#2) capped a season for the Dragons who finished with an impressive 30-2 record.

Key wins in their season were home and away victories over Flint Hill (who won the Division 1 State Championship) where Middleburg Academy won the Flint Hill Tournament Championship.   “We have a lot of respect for Flint Hill and the tradition they have built, but those wins did give us the confidence to make a run at the State Championship” said sophomore Lilly Reilly ‘18.  It was in that same tournament that Middleburg also defeated the team they lost to in last year’s championship game.

The team is comprised of Delaney Blackburn, ’16, Darby Dettra ’16, Elle Benefield ’17, Meagan McDonald ’17, Alison Thomas ’17, Emma DiClementi ’18, Lauren Greminger ’18, Lilly Reilly ’18, Chelsea Penfield ’19, Lilian Vargo ’19.

Middleburg Academy began their march to the title with a win over St. Margaret’s.  The Final Four was hosted at Richard Bland College in Petersburg, VA on Friday and Saturday. Middleburg Academy will be returning all its starters next year, and coach Maureen DiClementi is looking forward to another spectacular season.
